Breaching Humpback Whale

Year Round Monterey Bay Whale Watching And Nature Tours Fully Narrated By
Experienced Marine Biologists/Naturalists

Monterey Bay is often visited by 66,000 pound whales, who like to socialize, feed and play off its shores. With acrobatic humpback whales, migrating gray whales, killer whales, and blue whales, you might just catch a glimpse of a spout, lunge feeding, or breaching – the WOW factor is huge!

The protected marine sanctuary of the Monterey Bay Submarine Canyon is rich with an abundance of nutrients including plankton, anchovies, and sardines with such frequent whale and wildlife sightings, that Monterey is one of the top places in the world to whale watch YEAR ROUND, seven days a week.

A Marine Biologist/Naturalist accompanies every 2 ½ to 3 hour cruise to serve as an interpretive guide to the ecology and natural history of Monterey Bay including its ecological turnaround, how to spot a whale and their behaviors, what Killer Whales feed on, the many different species of dolphin, why birds love Mola Mola’s coming to the surface, and much more.

Depending on when you choose to join us, you’ll have the chance to observe marine mammals such as the Gray Whale, Humpback Whale, Blue Whale, Fin Whale, Minke Whale, Beaked Whales, Orca (Killer Whale), Bottlenose Dolphin, Northern Right Whale Dolphin, Pacific White-sided Dolphin, Risso’s Dolphin, Harbor Porpoise, Dall’s Porpoise, California Sea Lion, Pacific Harbor Seal, and Southern Sea Otter. You’ll also have the opportunity to view some of the nearly one hundred endemic and migratory birds including seabirds such as Loons, Grebes, Black-footed Albatross, Shearwaters Pelicans, Cormorants, Phalaropes, Jaegers, Gulls, Terns, and Alcids. And don’t forget about sharks, Mola Mola (Ocean Sun Fish), jellyfishes, and even the Leatherback Sea Turtle!

Trips: Year-round daily – weather permitting
Schedule: please check our current schedule
Check-in: 30 minutes prior to departure
Duration: 2 1/2 to 3 hours

Daily whale watching cruises are approximately 2½ to 3 hours in duration. Our experience is that this length of time gives you ample opportunity to view whales and dolphins in their natural habitat.

Sorry, no children under age 5 and no expecting mothers.

While we can’t guarantee a whale sighting every trip, our experience has allowed us to maintain an unsurpassed record for success in this area. We follow the federal whale watching guidelines; stopping the boat at least 300 ft (91 m) away from the whales and allowing the whales to approach us. The California coast offers a unique opportunity to observe whales and other marine wildlife year round. We offer a safe, fun, and educational trip for the whole family to enjoy.
