Cow/calf humpback pair with incredible breaching, pec slapping, and chin slapping, plus 6–7 scattered humpbacks near Moss Landing. Multiple pods totaling 700+ common dolphins, including exciting bow and wake riding.

Today’s trip featured an incredible group of 200+ common dolphins traveling through Monterey Bay! We also spotted a minke whale and several scattered humpback whales throughout the area.

Guests were treated to active surface behavior from humpback whales, providing exciting views throughout the trip. We also encountered beautiful purple-striped jellies drifting through Monterey Bay.

Monday’s trip consisted of lunge-feeding humpback whales, long-beaked common dolphins, killer whales (classified as the CA140Bs, or Louise’s pod), and sea lions.

We headed northwest and encountered the CA140B pod of orcas, led by matriarch Louise, as they actively hunted a mother-and-calf pair of common dolphins. On the way back to the harbor, we found another pod of about 400 common dolphins, making for an unforgettable morning on Monterey Bay.

We encountered a pod of 200+ long-beaked common dolphins on our way to Moss Landing before finding three pairs of humpback whales. The whales gave us great looks as they surfaced and made frequent sounding dives throughout the encounter.

We had another fantastic day on Monterey Bay with 8–10 humpback whales and a pod of about 400 common dolphins. A humpback calf delighted everyone with a breach while traveling alongside its mother, making for an unforgettable day on the water.

Sightings of humpback whales actively feeding near Moss Landing alongside large numbers of seabirds and sea lions. The whales treated us to several impressive lunge-feeding displays, making for an exciting afternoon on Monterey Bay.

We had another great day on Monterey Bay with 4–5 humpback whales just offshore of Moss Landing, giving us beautiful tail flukes and close looks at one whale’s face, while rafts of sea lions followed nearby.
